Brazilian Carnival (2012)

More than 50 religious scholars calling for the cancellation of Lebanon’s first Brazilian street carnaval due to concerns over the female dancers costumes were successful in having today’s performance canceled, which according to the group headed by Sheikh Ali Yassin was declared ‘haram.’

30 dancers and musicians from Brazil were invite to Lebanon to perform in the street parades throughout Lebanon with the finale in Tyre.

Religious scholars in Tyre are concerned that the skimpy costumes would spark outrage from the mainly conservative residents.
