At the beginning of January 2002, the General Sureté organized police raids in Virgin Megastore, Beirut. They seized DVDs and CDs under the pretext that they “offended religious sentiments, customs and the regulations of the boycott against Israel. These movies are regularly played on Lebanese TV channels (and TV programs are controlled by the General Sureté). The reasons for seizing the movies are the following ones: either names of actors, directors,producers, who have been banned for their “pro-Zionism” by the Office of Boycott against Israel, appear in the naming of these movies. Ben Hur was one of them and has been banned ever since.
